Swollen Gill on Jewel Cichlid

Question

Jewel Cichlid I have a 3 year old Jewel Cichlid that has a large growth on the right gill. It has gradually continued to grow over last 4 months. I have treated the tank with Ick & protozoan parasite treatment. It did nothing. The growth is continuing to grow and appears to have a air bubble around it. The fish continues to eat and function normally. I have not added any fish to the tank in 3 years. Its a 55 gallon tank with 14 cichlids, 1 clown loach, 1 catfish, 1 plecostomas. Any ideas what it could be and how to treat it? I have had cichlids for 15 years & never seen this before. I can take a photo and email it if it helps.

Hi Laura,
Unfortunately I do not know what is causing that or how to treat it. It is definitely not ick and highly unlikely that it is a parasite. Sorry.
