fish for my new tank

Question
what kind of cichlids do you suggest for a 40 gallon breeder tank? i want some interesting fish so i thought that they would be best. and what do i need to care for them, and can i have sand in the tank, if so what kind? do they need certain decorations so they can hide? thank you in advance for the help! :)

Hi Tiffany,
  Your biggest decision is whether you want East African cichlids, West African cichlids, South American cichlids or Central American cichlids.  I would not mix any of these.  Which would you prefer?
