Hi. My fish is a goldfish and this is my first time having one has a pet so I have a couple of questions. First of all, my goldfish is in a long vase like bowl and the water is just plain tap water. (no chemicals or anything)Is this okay? I feed it two times a day, like instructed on the back of the fish food container. Today I noticed that my goldfish has a redish spot just under its eyes, sort of on its nose. There is also some little purplish "furry" thing growing on top of the red spot. Is this something to worry about? Why is this happening and what can I do to get rid of it? Also, if this has anything to do with ammonia, what type of a filter should I buy and how do I put it in the "tank" (Like I said before, the goldfish is in a long vase like bowl) I attached a picture along, though its kind of blurry. Please help! Thanks.

Answer
Afsana,
Your fish cannot be in a vase. It needs to be in a 20 gallon aquarium with a good filter. Make sure you are adding a water conditioner to remove the chlorine from your tap water. If you are not doing that, then that is one of the problems. Also, since he is in a vase, with no filter, make sure you are changing all the water every day. You will have to do this every day while the right tank with filter cycles. If you need help with that, just let me know.
