Is the salt I use for my water softener, considered rock salt?  My fish have ich.  I read the cure, but it is too late to get to the store.  I have 99.5% pure salt for my softener, can I use this?

Hey,

Yes, the salt from your water softener can be used.

Make sure you raise your water temp to around 82, this is because ich can not survive high temps.

Please be careful adding salt to a fresh water aquarium, some fish cannot tolorate salt and you need to have a place to move them to immediately if they start to show strange signs.

If your salt method doesnt work, i advise going and getting Quick Cure by Aquarium Products, and use it for about 14 days. This has always given me great results.
