Questionhello sir,i own a pair of golden severum.they are a breeding pair.recently i came to know that if the fry is removed after seven days, the parents will breed again in the next week.is there any fact in it.which is it the best time to remove the fry from breeding tank.
AnswerHi Linus,
It isn't quite as strict a timetable as you portray, but the principle is true, i.e., if you remove the fry from a breeding pair of cichlids, such as severums, they will tend to breed much sooner than if you leave the fry with them. HOWEVER, and this is important. There is also a much higher chance of the parents fighting and even killing each other -- basically each blames the other for the loss of the fry.
Personally, I like to leave the fry with the parents for at least 2 to 3 weeks, often longer, because I particularly enjoy watching the parents do their parental thing.
