Cichlid Eye

My cichlid has a white growth in the middle of his eye, it looks like a small white piece of gravel stuck in his eye. Obviously it is not, but is it a growth, fungus, or disease. What would be the best cure, if there is one?

Hi Jenny,
 First we need to find out the cause.  Are there other fish in the tank that might have bitten him in the eye?   If so, separating them is important.  Treat the fish with any of the anti-fungal medicines and provided he doesn't get bitten again, it should probably heal.
