leaving fish while on vacation

Question
Hi Renee,
I have a 20 gal. tank with tetras. This summer I am going away on vacation and might not have anyone to take care of the fish. My question, is it possible to leave the tank for two weeks? I know you can by an automatic feeder and a light timer. Do you think the fish would be ok if I did this and left for 2 weeks. I just want them to be ok.     Thanks

Answer
Hi Pat,

Don't ever buy a weekend fish feeder or one of those food blocks.  You will possibly return to the largest disaster of your life. They are nothing but nitrate factories.

If you go for 2 weeks, please consider hiring someone to come in every day and feed.

YOu can buy a light timer and an auto-feeder, but it still takes a human being to maintain it and refill it.

WhenI leave, I leave someone at my home.  I don't trust timers and fish should be fed daily.

Hopefully this helps and happy fish-keeping.

Renee
