Betta Fish Male and Female

Question
Ron,

I have two betta fish, one male and one female in the same bowl.  It's a small bowl, maybe half a gallon.  They seem to get along well chasing each other from time to time but lately they've been acting a bit strange.  The female fish has been found lying vertical within the fake plant  for roughly 12 hour periods.  She also tends to float near the top.  I was told that pregnancy is not out of the question.  Is this what her behavior implies?  How can I tell if she is pregnant and more importantly, what do I do if she is?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Joe,
She is trying to hide from the male.  You really need to either separate the two fish or get a much larger tank, otherwise, eventually he will kill her.
