Fuzzy blob thing

Question
I just got my Calico goldfish about 2 months ago, I have three of them and an algae eater in a 10 gallon tank. 2 fish all of a sudden got fat this past week and I haven't changed their feeding schedules which is once I get home from school around 3:30. They all get along with each other pretty well mostly swimming together, except for my algae eater who tries to escape the bowl i have him in when changing the water. The temp of the water is around room temperature i have a filter in the tank also. I actually have 3 questions:
1) Are the two fatter one's male or female?
2) If they are female, are they ready to lay eggs?
3) and, What is this little fuzzy blob sticking to my turtle decoration in the tank, is it an egg sack or is it something i need to take out immediately?
Please help me the fuzzy blob is a little creepy.

Answer
Kayla,

First off, the tank you have them in is too small. To have the 3 goldfish you will need a tank no smaller than a 40 gallon. You need 20 gallons of water for the first goldfish and 10 gallons for every added fish. So, that said I would remove the "fuzzy blob". It is most likely uneaten food growing mold. Do you have any live plants in the tank? Goldfish are very hard to sex and without a picture there is no way I can help you with the male female question. As for the water changes. Never remove the fish from the tank even when doing the water changes. It add undo stress to the fish. If the 2 are female and going to lay eggs, if there is no male in the tank the eggs will be eaten. No, for the algae eater. He is a tropical fish and needs warm water. Your goldfish are cold water fish. The two different breed should really not be in the same tank.
