Question

Silver Shark swollen e
I have a 180 litre fish tank with three common Plecs 3 Clown loaches and 3 Silver sharks. The tank is fine and the Ph levels and Nitrate levels are fine. The fish are all healthy and have been fine fine up untill today. The tank is still a little bit cloudy but it always is after ive been working on it.It clears after a few hours Im using an internal juwel filter that is healthy and an Aqua one external filter that is healthy to back it up. I only have the carbon in the external filter.

I was cleaning my tank and doing standardard maintenance on it. Example pruneing the plants and water change etc... Well Silver Sharks are flighty things and one of them darted across the tank and jumped out the tank and fell about id say 4 foot and landed on the wood floor.

I got him back in the tank and sort of held him upright untill he sorted himself out. I held him upright but he was free to swim forwrd etc... I let him go he was a bit wobbly but a few minutes later he swam off and seemed fine apart from a few scales missing and slight damage to his dorsal fin, which doesnt seem to be bothering becuase he is still lively enough.

I didnt turn the light back on in the tank to let them settle down a bit and made sure the water was back upto normal temparature etc... I checked the tank about 3 hours later. The shark that jumped out the tank, his eye is slightly swollen and a little bit cloudy. His eye wasnt like that when i put him back in the tank. I dont belive he damaged it when he jumped out the tank and i was very carefull picking him up although it was a bit rushed as you can imagine. He did manage to land in some dust aswell which isnt good either.

He is swimming around fine but i dont really know how to deal with it becuase i havent come across it before. Im hopeing it might be just a bit of stress and he will will get it together. Ive had them quite a while.

Any advice would be appreciated if you could tell me if there is anything i can do to help the Silver shark and what it could be. I have attached an image of the Silver shark showing its eye its not great qaulity but you can stil see his eye.

Many Thanks.

Andy.

Answer
Hi Andy,
It is very likely that he suffered some physical damage to his eye during the ordeal. The good news is that fish eyes are pretty tough and if left alone, they typically heal within a few days.
