Betta markings

Aloha:
I noticed recently that my betta has light colored spot on each of his gill area, same place. on the gill and on the body adjacent to the gill. it is not large. a little bigger than a bee bee.
I don't think he had it before.  I would have noticed.
Is this a sign of aging, or some disease or such?

Hi Mele,
  That is hard for me to say.  My first impression would be that "no" it is not, particularlly if it is symmetrical, i.e., on each side.  But, if it spreads, then it could be a problem.
