Question
Can i put any other fish with my betta?  Can i buy a female betta and put her in with him if I learn how to mate them and research it well enough?

Answer
Never, ever put a female betta in with a male, they would kill each other.  Breeding Bettas, is a whole other experience, you would need three tanks, one for the fry, one for the male betta, and one for the female.  You have to put the spawning pair into a 5-10-15 gallon tank at the same time, and watch them during the spawn, never taking your eyes off them.  When the spawn is over, you must remove the female.  It's lots of reading up on this.  I can't explain it all to you tonight.  The Betta's living space is too small to add other fish with him.  The Betta prefers to be alone, he is a loner by nature.
