African Clawed Frog fungus?

Question
I have a 10 gallon fresh water tank with one (used to be two) African Clawed Frog and a Placo.  I've had the tank about 3 years.  The male frog that is no longer with us developed a nickel sized sore on his back that was flaky white and eventually got bloody and appeared really painful - we put him out of his misery quite a while ago.  The female, the one left, is larger than what the male was, and seemed to be more healthy until just recently, when I noticed she was not eating as regularly, and I also noticed that she has what seems to be the beginnings of the flakey white developing.  The pH right now is very basic,at least 7.4, although it was not always this high.  The Placo is also interested in "sucking" on her. I'm very stressed that I will lose my last frog...any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Laura;

It would be a good idea to separate the frog so she isn't being injured more by the plecostomus. You could use an aquarium divider so you don't have to get another tank. They are available at most fish stores in different sizes and some you can trim with scissors to fit.

It is possible your frog has a bacterial infection known as "red leg". There are many symptoms, and not all frogs develop the obvious ones. Here is a good web page with info on symptoms and treatments;

I hope she feels better soon.....
