Question

Jasper, my fish.
I forgot to add a picture of my beta. I looked at pictures online of them and they're fins are so much bigger and brighter. My beta's fins are like torn (we bought him like that) and he's so tiny!! I just want to make sure he's okay and it's okay that he looks like he does.  I love him haha I never thought I could love a fish but I do!  I put a mirror in front of him and he did make his fins go out and followed it for a second.  He just isn't eating.

Answer
Hi Jamie,
Thank you for posting a picture of your little betta.  I love the blue bettas!  He is young, which is a good thing.  He doesn't look well.  He was probably not well kept at the pet store where you bought him.  When a betta doesn't eat, it is because he isn't well. I think that his fall didn't help him either.  He must be stressed.  Add a little aquarium salt to his water, but dilute it first. 1/2 teaspoon should help him with the stress.  Try feeding him betta pellets, or Betta Flakes.  Ask the Pet Store what they were feeding him.  Poor thing.  Was he in a bowl when you bought him?  I'm just wondering seeing has he has torn fins.  Maybe he was in a tank with another fish, and was picked on.  Give him the Melafix treatment that I told you about, and see if that helps.  Hopefully it will.  Write back if you see no change after the treatment, or if you see that something else shows up on his body. It is very hard to treat a fish in a bowl as most medication is made for 5-10 gallon tanks.  I trust Melafix, and have cured many Bettas with it, so hopefully it should help.  Don't wait to long to treat him, as Bettas go down fast.
I just want to add, when you change his water, make sure it is the same temperature as the water he is in.
Hope that he will feel better soon.
