Is my goldfish sick or sleeping?

23 14:12:57

Question
I just got a goldfish two days ago.  He was acting find the first day and yesterday he laid in the corner, (up right) at the bottom of the tank most of the day.  Sometimes he will get up and swim slowly to the other side of the tank and then lay over there at the bottom of the tank.  He has not been swimming fast or a lot since after the first day.  I took him out of the tank because I didn't want him getting the other goldfish sick.  I have two in a 10-gallon tank.  He does get up and move around a little so maybe he was just resting but how can I tell? Is it normal for a goldfish to lay at the bottom for long periods of time?

Answer
Hi Elizabeth,
It is not normal for a goldfish to lay on the bottom for long periods of time.  However, your new fish may be a bit shocked by the whole experience of being moved to a new world and so on and that can cause a fish to rest or hide for several days.

Of course, it is also possible that the new fish is sick. Only time will tell.
