QuestionQUESTION: Hi
at one of my local fishstore i found three one inch fish label apistogramma cacatuoides. but these three fish lack any colors on body or on their fins. they are just a grayish body with a black line runing from the head to the tail. are they apistogramma cacatuoides, i realy want to get a pair that have good fin and color.
thank you
ANSWER: Ray,
Yes, even though the color is dull they could still be apistogramma cacatuoides. They could be quite young still, or female. Since they are about 1 inch, then it sounds like they are still juveniles since these fish usually grow to about 5 centimeters.(1.9 to 2")

QUESTION: Hi
I saw some 1 inch apistogramma cacatuoides on youtube and they have red on their tail but not the one in my store.
AnswerRay,
Unfortunately, it is hard for me to tell without a picture, but I know juveniles are a gray color before they become adults. Chances are, they are apistogramma cacatuoides just young. Probably about 2 months old give or take. If you watch this video, you will see a young one, 2 months old, in front of the bottle, you will see reference to it on the screen right around the 6min 4 second mark. Does the one you have at the store look like it?
