QuestionMy oscar has developed craters in his head from hith disease. What medicinal treatment can I provide and can this be administered with other fish in the tank for oscar is 13 inches long and I don't have another hospital tank adequate for him.
AnswerHi George,
Hole in the head is a symptom, not a disease per se. It is often associated with poor water quality. The best way to deal with it is to do more frequent water changes. Oscars are very sensitive to a buildup of nitrogen in the water and that seems to often be associated with hole in the head. Water changes are the way to cure that. By and large medicines only deal with secondary issues, like secondary infections associated with hole in the head, but do not deal with the root of the problem, namely the water.
