Betta eye issue

Question
A little back story... I adopted my Betta almost a year ago from a friend and he's always been a hearty fish. He lives in a filtered 2 gal tank with driftwood, java moss, and java fern. I feed him 4 pellets 2x a day with an occasional substitution of bloodworms as a treat. I do a complete water change every 2 wks and try to do a 1/2 change weekly (though I confess I miss them sometimes).
Here's the problem:
I have recently noticed a large foggy white spot on each of my Betta's eyes. It kind of reminds me of the way a dog's eyes get if it has cataracts or is losing its vision.  But my fish seems to have no trouble seeing his food, and seems otherwise happy and healthy. Should I be worried and is there anything I can do to correct this?
Thanks for your time!

Answer
Hi Dana,
That is something to be concerned about.  From your description, I assume that there are no other fish in the tank.  If there were other fish, I would say that odds are one of them is attacking him.

But if there aren't, then we have to wonder about the water.  When the water isn't good, the eyes get irritated.  It is better to do more frequent partial water changes than to do complete water changes.  Give that a try and see if his eyes clear up.
