Question
Hi,
Recently, one of my beloved pet budgies died, he was only 3 yrs of age, and now I've got his mate all by herself. One of my friends is a breeder and is willing to give me one of her babies, but I'm worried about feeding and hand taming etc.

Can you help?

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Daniel!

I suggest telling you friend to give you a chick when it is 6 weeks old and is able to feed itself, although you can take it as at as young as a month. It will be able to feed and take care of itself, and if you know the breeder then you can possibly go over to the breeder's and work with the chick and handle it before you even receive it. Or, you could just ask your friend to take a little extra time to handle it. I find that handling chicks after they've opened their minds is the best way to hand tame them. I currently have 8 hand tame chicks because all I did was handle them as babies.

Hope this helps!
