Question
HI THERE, I HAVE 3 COUPLES OF BUDGIES (TOTAL OF 6)
2 OF THE COUPLES BREED.

1 COUPLE: BREED A LOT BUT THE FEMALE NEVER GOES INTO THE NEST BOX :0 :0 (I DON'T GET IT) THEY ARE BREEDING FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS.

2 COUPLE: BREED EVERY OTHER DAY, FOR 2 WEEKS ALSO, THE FEMALE IS ALWAYS IN THE NEXT BOX, NUT NO EGGS YET.

I SEARCH HOW LONG DOES TO A FEMALE LAYING A EGG AFTER MATING.... BUT EVERY WHERE I FIND A DIFFERENT ANSWER, 2 DAYS, 4 DAYS, 2 WEEKS.
SO IF THEY MATE WHY NO EGGS?

Answer
There are a few things that you can try.

First of all, if you have multiple pairs, it can be hard to breed them.  "Colony breeding" can be complicated and it's usually better to let them breed one pair at a time, especially if you are new to breeding budgies.  You may want to try separating the bonded pairs. from each other.

Second, with the first pair, try putting wood shavings in and around the nest.  Females will instinctively clean an area to make a clean nesting area.  This behavior helps stimulate their instinct to lay eggs.

Third, no one really knows for sure how long it will take for a female to lay after mating.  Budgies mate very frequently, and most of those matings are unsuccessful.  It's usually about two days after the eggs are fertilized, but not all matings will result in fertilization.  It takes a lot of patience.

Also, you will want to make sure that they have proper vitamins and nutrients that they need to produce eggs.  A cuttlebone is an excellent source of calcium and will help the female replace the calcium that she will lose from laying the eggs, and if they have a calcium deficiency (which is rare), they may be unable to form a shell around the egg.  You can also give them either hard boiled or scrambled egg.  Eggs are the best food that you can give breeding budgies because it's a wonderful source of protein, carbs, and calcium.  Just mix the cooked egg up, shell and all, and let it cool to room temperature before serving it to the birds.  If they are healthier, they are more likely to produce healthy babies and stay healthy while they raise their young.
