Tiki Bird

Question
My boyfriend and I have a quaker (1 year old) named Tiki.  We purchased Tiki when he was 2 months old.  Tiki is the most affectionate bird or animal that I've ever seen.  My problem is that I think we may have spoiled him.  Tiki is used to having the run of the house.  He follows us from room to room, lays in our laps for a nap and talks up a storm and takes showers with us.  He's like a 2yr old child and I don't think that will ever change with him.  When he's out I have to keep telling him, "no Tiki, Don't do that!"  I have just started school and since I'm in legal studies I spend alot of time studying.  Since Tiki has been spending more time in his cage (I can't study and keep him out of trouble) he has started screaming constantly.  He's so loud that I can hear him while in my car on the street in front of my house.  If I go into our home office, close the door & wear ear plugs, I CAN STILL HEAR HIM!  If I walk down the street, I can hear him from 2 houses down.  I have spent a huge sum of money purchasing him toys and they are rotated ever 3-4 weeks.  Tiki is used to being out of his cage when we are home and I think he's having a difficult time with this.  How do I train Tiki to stop screaming?

Answer
Hello Cindy.
You definately have a spoiled bird on your hands, and he is not adjusting to the new situation very well.
The best advise that I can offer is for you to make sure that he has his "Tiki Time" every day.
When you are not able to spend the time with him, turn on a radio for him to listen to.
Quakers are screamers, and they are very social animals.  Once they have "picked their person", their life doespretty much revolve around that person, wanting the person's undivided attention.
Make a recording of your voice and play it while you are in your home office.  That may also help.  If he hears your voice, he might calm down.

I hope this helps.

Please keep me informed on how it's going.

Good luck and god bless.
