Weaning a TB racehorse

Question
I have just weaned my filly and would like some advice as to how long mum takes to dry up and if there is anything I can do to speed the process up!
The filly is in a paddock with "aunty" (my other ex-racehorse)and mum is in the paddock next to them with post and rail fencing in between.
I have found the filly on a couple of occasions, getting to mums' milk through the fence!

Answer
Hi Maggie,
If you have not already removed the mare from grain then do that for a week or two. That will help her dry up faster.  Most mares will dry up in the two week period of being without grain. I would not worry about the filly stealing a sip now and then, as she is most likely doing it for comfort and it should not hinder her dam's drying up.
