15 yr old mare in foal

Question
It's me again. Our mare is now at 354 days. The only other things I have noticed is excessive tail flicking and holding tail up. She stretches forward alot and stands there. She is extremely irritable with us, she doesn't like to be touched much especially her belly. Could there be something wrong with the foal? I know a mare can go a full year, but is that common? She is not in with the other horses, she's in a separate pen next to the other mare that foaled, so she should feel safe. I know you said they do not read manuals. Any advice?

Answer
I think you may need to have a vet come and look at your mare.  It is possible she could be carrying twins, the foal not be in a good position, or she may just be really uncomfortable.  How much exercise is she getting?  What and how much are you feeding her?  Has she had all her shots?  You may email me privately at karenarab@earthlink.net
