Question
I have a mare that is due at any time.   She seems to be getting smaller around but lower in the stomach.  She has had many false labor evenings.  I am going to try and listen for the foal's heartbeat or kicking.  If the foal has died will she still go into labor?  Thanks for any input.

Answer
Hi- at that far along she would be looking sort of Poor in her hips. has she dropped her milk?? If the foal is dead, she might come into labor anyway, or not. The foal could also be positioned wrong or stuck. If the foal has gotten in the position th be born- you probably won't feel any movements from it if it is alive. I would call the vet to be sure. If the baby is dead and she can't deliver it, she can go septic and die. She may just be going longer. I wish you the best of luck!!!! Please let me know what happens!! thanks Heather
