Gestation

Question
We recently purchase a mare at auction.  We think she might be in her 3rd trimester.  What can we look for to give us indications of how far along she is.  There is a lot of activity (foal kicking) already.

Hi  Korena,
                     The only sure way to tell is to have a Vet palpate her. There are really no outward signs that can determine how far along she is as each mare is different. Just in case she is in foal, then you will want to make sure that she has no fescue in her pasture or hay and that you increase the amount of grain she gets. You might want to switch her to a mare and foal type, just to make sure that she gets proper nutrition.
