Question
Hi,

I have a corn snake which has recently had a few problems. I have had him for about 8 or 9 years.

My snakes colour has become very dark from his usual bright orange colour.

About a month ago I noticed a injury on his side and rushed him to the nearest vet (not a reptile vet, but he said he did know about reptiles). The vet said that it was just a straight forward injury. Maybe hurt himself in his cage or something. The injury has got alot better, but he is still dark and his skin seems to pucker (his scales stick up) He is also shedding at the moment.

He has not eaten for 2 weeks and will not take mice like he usually did only pinky rats.

There is no reptile vet in my area the nearest one is about 80 kilometers away. Please could you give me some advice.

I have changed the carpet in his cage. Could this be a problem? Is my snake too old?

Please help
Thanks
Jacob

Answer
Hello Jacob,

Well since your snake is shedding I would try to raise the humidity a bit and soak your snake in a luke warm bath until you snake has finished its shedding cycle..

If its skin is still dark, if possibly I'd try and do some blood work on him because, it could be from that injury..

Is your snake acting different than usual?

Would you mind sending me a picture of your snake and then I can see what it possibly could be?

My email address is tia27@hotmail.com

Thank you:)
