Question
Hi,
I am having a big problem , i purchased a snake several month back from a local pet store... it appears it was a wild caught adult ball python . The snake is very friendly a bit shy sometimes but refuses to eat , already offered him several times food but no he would just simply refuse to eat .I know ball python can be funny when it comes to eating but i think i have reached the limit of my frustration.... Oh by the way he has already shed without any complications... in general he is doing ok drinks and moves around.
Can anyone tell me if i am doing anything wrong..
Thank you.

Answer
It can be very difficult getting a wild caught animal to feed. Usually when you buy from a pet shop or reptile show you want to ask if it's captive born or wild caught and if it's feeding. Not that the person selling couldn't lie about it anyways, but it's always best to ask.
As far as your particular animal, the first thing to check is your cage setup. Do you have the proper temps, do you have both a warm and cool side for the cage, hide boxes, etc. Next, what types of foods have you offered...rats, mice, both live and frozen/thawed. If you've tried all of those, what about "braining" the mouse (ie. cutting a small hole in it's head and oozing some brains out...it works sometimes). There is also scenting with lizards and/or fish. I've used store-bought catfish for scent on boas before and it worked great. If all else fails, you might try posting to the kingsnake dot com forum for ball pythons. I'm sure that someone out there has dealt with WC BPs before and can help you. Good luck.
