my neighbor here in the Windsor Ontario (LaSalle) area saw a large diameter black and yellow snake coiled up on her patio today. It was approx 5 feet long and slithered away before I could see it. We are located on a harbor right off the Detroit River. Any idea what this could be ?

80% sure you saw a black rat snake. We have them here in Knoxville, TN. There are many color variations to this snake and their belly can be a yelloish-cream color. Here is a link to the snakes in your area:
