Question
QUESTION: Since a red tail boa and a central american boa come from about the same area. would it be possible for me to put them in the same tank. they are both small now maybe a foot long but when they get bigger i would build my own cage to put them both in.

Thanks

ANSWER: Josh, that would probably be ok as long as they are close in size and you always separate to feed.  I'd say for the two snakes you're talking about you'd need at LEAST a 20 gallon long.  40 gallon breeder tank would be better, and even that one will be too small within 6-9 months time.  B

QUESTION: right now i have the one central american boa in a 30 gallon high. there is a huge water dish, a half log that is big enough for a couple of snakes to fit under, and some sticks to climb on. i dont plan on keeping them in this tank for long i just have to buy materials to make my own, and thats what i need to ask about.
can i build the cage out of mdf particle board with plexiglass door with hinges and a screen top.this would be like a 5 foot tall cage and 4-6 feet long. i would have two different size platforms at different heights with climbing sticks up to them both and to the ground. im not sure what to seal the board with since i dont want it to rot from misting or waste that the snakes have. i also would like to know if i can use wood glue or cauck to seal the shelves on. does this sound like a good idea?

Thanks

Answer
Josh, I'd suggest one of two things.  Either make the cage out of marine plywood (it's pretreated) or just buy a ready-made cage.  I've built many snake cages in the past, and while you do save a little money, the time involved both building and then trying to maintain a wooden cage (that is huge and far too heavy to move), is simply not worth it.  The premade plastic and/or fiberglass cages are FAR SUPERIOR in quality and design to what you can do at home.  I have Vision cages and LOVE them.  The 6'x3'x18" can be lifted and carried with one hand!  Take it outside, hose it out, bing bam boom!

Where do you live?  I have two extra visions that would be perfect for your boas, that are simply taking up space in my garage, perhaps we could come to terms...  Email me at bnr.com@prodigy.net if you're interested.
