Human eating snake

Question
Hi

A friend told me that someone she knew had a snake (not sure of the species) and woke to find the snake streched out on her bed, but it was not a concern as it roamed around the house without any restriction  It had stopped eating a few days before and along with this and being stretched out on her bed, she took it to the vet.  The vet told her that the snake was measuring her up to eat her.  I don't know much about snakes but I didn't think that snakes attacked humans unless provoked and I certainly didn't think that they ate humans as a rule.  Are you able to answer this question.

Answer
Karen,
It would depend on the size of the snake. Some snakes will prey on anything warm blooded that is of proper prey size. For example, a child or small woman could be suitable prey for an Anaconda. Other large snakes have killed humans, even men. That being said, 99.9% of the time, snakes bite out of self defense and do not seek out humans as prey.
