Very, very worried about my corn snake

Question
QUESTION: I bought a corn snake three weeks ago... It was perfectly healthy and two days
after bringing it home, it had no problem eating right in front of me. The
snake is about a foot long. I moved it back to my house (since I was visiting
my sister's, 5 hour trip) and put it in a 20 gallon tank with plenty of hiding
space. When I went to the store to buy mice, there were no pinky left, only
medium-sized mice. I was worried that my snake might not eat it, but the girl
there reassured me that if it couldn't ''take'' the mouse, it would not eat it. But
it did... after much trouble... (My sister handled it the next day since she
wasn't aware she wasn't supposed to and it regurgitated a bit). It's been 14
days since it hasn't eaten (we attempted to give it tiny pinkies after 7 days, 9
days and 11 days, and will attempt again tonight). Thing is, there is um
something pink coming out of its end, like... flesh... I'm terrified it might have
stretched itself digesting the mouse. Is there a way to help my snake? =(

ANSWER: Hi Marianne
You need to take your snake to a Veterinarian who treats reptiles.  I would actually need to see your snake but it sounds as though it has a rectal prolapse from eating too large of a mouse.  Please have it seen quickly as there isn't anything you can do on your own to help your snake.  It needs medical assistance.  Good luck and let me know how it does.

QUESTION: I'm just letting you know that my snake is fine; I read a bit on rectal prolapse
and saw that it was sometimes caused from feces stopping the rectum from re-
entering... So I very carefully cleaned the tissue with a q-tip and water, and it
retracted on its own! Thank you for the advice. Are there any complications that
might arise from the fact that he hasn't been able to defecate in a while?

Answer
Hi Marianne
You are a brave one to take on caring for your snakes prolapse. It is a very delicate situation and fortunately for you you were able to "correct" it.  Just keep an eye on him and if his abdomen becomes swollen/enlarged than the food is still lodged inside. Has he eaten again at all?  You might want to coninue to offer food until he eats.  That will help move his bowels.  If he doesn't eat within another week or two then you really should take him in for an examination.  Take care.
