Question
The bedding for my snake is getting pretty expensive, because he has a large floor space. I was wondering if fresh grass clippings would be an okay alternative to store-bought barks and what-not. My grass is never fertilized so no worries there. We also have a lot of leafy trees (not sure of the species) so maybe some leaves could be added? I know it holds a lot of humidity, which is good because I have trouble keeping the humidity up. As far as fungus growing on it, I think I could keep it fresh enough for mold etc not to grow if it would hurt my snake.

Thanks!
Lexi

Answer
Lexi,
Bad idea for a lot of reasons (mold, parasites, bacteria). There is a good remedy though: Cypress Mulch from Walmart. It is 3 or 4 dollars per big bag and will keep mold growth down. Stock up in the summer, it is not available in the winter.
