QuestionHi Tracie.
I currently own two leopard geckos, male and female. I have them in a 20 long tank with Vita-Sand. I took my male out today. He had shed a few days ago and there was still some shed on his toes. I used the cue-tip method to get it off, (give him a luke warm bath and gently use a cue-tip to brush the shed off.) I noticed that he had an unusual coloration on his head that I hadn't noticed before. I play with my leos every day, but I don't inspect them so close unless I am weighting them or cleaning them (which I try to do once a week.) Twich (my male) is a super hypo carrot tail meaning his head and main body is a bright yellow color with slightly darker bands on his back and a little darker speckling on his nose. What I noticed was a pink, or almost peach colored section on both sides of the top of his head. It doesn't look like a fungus but I've never seen a fungus on a reptile before. I plan on taking him to the vet no matter what, but I wouldn't mind an opinion now, as we are currently snowed in. Thanks so much!
AnswerHello Phil,
Do you have any pictures of that for me just so I can see the condition?
It also could be an upcoming shed as well. Usually, leopard geckos do not suffer from fungus too often, so that is why I would like to see a picture if possible.
What is the humidity in the tank, & what type of substrate are they on?
It could also be pigmentation changes which can sometimes happen as they mature, too.
The q-tip method works really well doesn't it!
