QuestionI recently caught 3 blue bellied lizards, and I have had them for about 3 months. today one of my lizards started having eggs. Will they live? What should I do for her? What do I need for them to hatch?
AnswerI have never kept Western Fence Lizards or Blue-bellies or Swifts as they are also called
I would think that if you take the eggs right after they have been laid and have not had a chance to dry out and place them in a covered container of moistened vermiculite or perlite and then place them somewhere that has a relatively steady temperature between 88-85 degrees that you will have a good chance of hatching out some babies
The vermiculite or perlite should be moist but not soaking wet
A good test is to take a clump of it on your hand and squeeze-if it drips water-it is too wet and the eggs will rot and mold
It should just clump in your hand but not drip water
Check on the eggs and lift open the cover of the container to let out excess moisture about once per week
Unfortunately-I have no idea on how long that it will take for the eggs to hatch
The babies will be very small and you may have to buy some very small insects to feed them-pinhead crickets or fruit flies
I hope that this has helped
:)
Good Luck with your lizards and their eggs
