Leopard gecko with eye infection

Question
Hi Tracie, my 4 yr old LG was having problems opening her eye for a few days and stopped eating for over a week. After she shed (I had to help get the skin off around her head) the eye opened but was filled with green puss. I took her to the vet that morning and was given Baytril & Tobramycin and told to try syringe feeding her. I feed her jumpstart w/water and the insides of waxworms 2-3 times a day. She is pooping again, although very runny. My main problem is the eye. She hasn't opened it in 2 days and the vet told me the drops should go in the eye. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Geraldine,

Wow, it sounds like she has a terrible eye infection, poor thing.
The Tobramycin goes in the eyes, yes, but the Baytril is oral.
The reason the stool is runny is due to the infection causing her some stress.  I am happy to hear that you have gotten some food into her though that should help her out quite a bit!
Do you know what could have caused the eye infection?  Retained shed, or substrate getting into the eye?

You can also get some sterile saline solution to help flush the eye out before putting in the eye drops.

Let me know how she is doing.

Tracie
