Question
Hi Sheila,
My name is Leah and I have a 4 year old French lop. About two months ago, I noticed that Buttercup had mites. I could see their effect only on her back. I began to treat her with Revolution. However, the mites continued to spread to her ears (which had no problem before)even after the medication. So, I put the medicine directly on her ear and so far, its been going good. Lately, I've seen that she is secreting some kind of liquid from her eyes... the fur underit is wet and kind of crusty. I wonder if this is from the mites or if it a separate problem? If the problem is from the mites, and if i continue with the medication, will her eyes get better? Thank you for reading.

Answer
Leah, I do not know what Revolution is ( I live in Mexico ) - Two continuous months is much to long for any treatment of mites - it is not working.  Also that long a treatment is not good for the system of your bunny.

I would give her IVOMECTIN 1% 2ml / kilo injected x 4 times every 7 days - this would take care of the fur and ear mites.  Apart from this you need to thoroughly clean her habitat - mites take up residence in untreated wood - which is a good reason not to have wood hutches or nests - or / and they can come in a bag of infested hay.  Fur mites and ear mites are two different bugs but both will die with the ivo.

Her eye problem is probably caused by to much Revolution  - get some bateriostatic eye drops ( for humans is ok ) and apply 2 x a day for 5 days.
