repeated stasis

Question
Our 5-7 yr. old neutered male Dutch mix is in stasis again for the 3rd time in a month.  We've had him a little over 18 months, and he went into stasis 4x in the first 6 months.  Those times, we had x-rays, etc., done, and nothing was found except some very tiny molar spurs.  After that, we began having his teeth trimmed every 8 weeks.  Last month, he only went 10 days before needing a trim again, and now, it's been only 3 weeks, and he's in stasis again.  Previous owner says they NEVER had any stasis issues.  We feed unlimited greens (red-leaf lettuce, escarole, radicchio, romaine, parsley, limited kale (treat only, and not every day), chickory), unlimited Timothy hay, and limited (~2 tablespoons) Timothy pellets daily.  What on earth could be causing him to go into stasis--especially so regularly?  He's at the vet right now, but we'd really like to find out what is happening, and vet has been stumped!

Lastly, we were subscribed to EtherBun, but haven't received anything in more than a month.  Tried to resubscribe, but got message we were already subscribed.  Sent note asking what might be going on, and no response.  Any ideas?

Thanks, in advance for your assistance!
Nancy

Answer
Dear Nancy,

Sorry for the delay.  Our internet connection went down, and we finally got it back up.

Molar spurs and dental problems are not the only reason your bunny might get chronic GI slowdown.  I would ask the vet about doing more diagnostic tests at this point, including blood work (CBC and blood chemistry panel), radiographs of chest and abdomen, and a thorough going over to be sure there are no signs of painful chronic problems such as arthritis, etc.

There's something at the root of this, and it can sometimes take a bit of detective work to find it.

I can help you with the EB subscription, but you'll have to write to me privately at dana@miami.edu

Hope this helps.
