Question
My rabbit had 6 babies yesterday. Last night, one died because it moved away from the others and got cold. Then this morning another died. After that, we added extra bedding and tried to keep the babies warm. Another died. Then, the mamma step on them, and another died, he was bleeding near his eye. I dont know if the mother is hurting them but there is only 2 left now. I removed them from the mom, and put them into a box in a blanket. Is there anything I can do to make sure these 2 will survive?

Answer
Hi,

yes there are some things you can do.

Get kitten milk replacement from a pet supply store.  Mix as directed, but use cream instead of water.  You will have to make the hole on the feeder bottle nipple a little bit bigger.  You can feed them several times a day, just don't feed them too fast and let them swallow well.

Get Bene-bac (beneficial bacteria) at the pet supply store and you can give them some of this as well during the time you are feeding them.

Make up a small nestbox - make a well using clean, soft cotton towels, and place them in there next to each other, and partially cover them with a tshirt/towel/some of mom's fur from the old nest.  Place a 60 watt bulb between 18-24 inches above them for indirect heat.

I would really suggest calling up your local rabbit vet or contacting any House Rabbit Society near you, or even the national HRS office (www.rabbit.org).
