QuestionWe have just come back from holiday and I have noticed that one of our female lop earred rabbits seems to have a medium amount of pooh stuck to her fur under her tale. Is this something I should be concerned about? I am not sure whether to leave it for her to deal with, to try and clean it myself or take her to the vet.
Thanks in advance
AnswerDear Sarah,
You are seeing the common signs of cecal dysbiosis, which you can read about here (under the "adult rabbits" section):
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/poop.html
The most common causes are incorrect diet, which you can check here:
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/diet.html
and pain/stress from molar spurs or other dental problems (especially in lops!), which you can read about here:
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/dental.html
You can find a good rabbit vet to help you here:
www.rabbit.org/vets
Hope that helps you get her back on track to a healthy GI tract. :)
Take care,
Dana
