Rabbit with ongoing teeth issue

Question
Hi. I have a rabbit who has molar spurs. I have to take her to get her teeth trimmed every few months, and unfortunately it can be rather pricey, which has caused quite the dilemma. I'm a college student on a fixed income, and I get no help financially from my parents. My rabbits vet bills are getting to be crazy, and if I can't figure something out soon, I won't be able to keep her. I assure you that I'm not some party-hard college girl who's gotten sick of her pet. I'm a broke girl who's trying so hard to provide a better life for myself. I love my bunny, and her bonded mates.
My boyfriend thinks that the humane thing to do is to euthanize her because this is an ongoing problem, but I disagree. I've also thought of re-homing her, but I find two problems with this: 1)I doubt anyone would take in a rabbit who needs her teeth shaven regularly and 2)I don't feel right just taking her away from her bonded mates as I know that it can be traumatic.
I should also mention that I've looked into pet insurance, but since I have no credit, I don't think it's an option for me.

I was wondering if you could give some advice? What is the best thing I can do in this situation?

Answer
Dear Chandra,

I don't have any magic answers for this problem.  But you are absolutely right when you say she should NOT be euthanized for this very treatable problem and should NOT be separated from her bonded mates.  I'd suggest you contact your local rabbit rescue group:

www.rabbit.org/chapters

to see if they can recommend a good rabbit vet who can do this procedure a bit more affordably.  Alternatively, if you foresee the financial situation as not changing in the future, you might try to enlist their help in finding *all* the bonded bunnies a new home together.  Eventually, others might also have health problems and that will cost money.  If you are not in a position to provide that necessary health care, it might be better for them to be living with someone who can.

I really wish I had another suggestion, but this is a very bad situation, any way you look at it.

Hope all resolves well.

Dana
