Question
Hi  My bunny is a 10month old french lop. 5 days ago I took her to the vet to be spayed.  She had  an exam at that time and got a clean bill of health.  24 hours after surgery she started eating.  Today is 5days after surgery she is eating and drinking although without much enthusiasim.  Her cage door is open but she is just sitting in there.  She no longer shows any curiosity or interest in anything. she was back to her old self day 3 and 4 but now is acting like she did the first 48 hours post op.  Whats up?  She has normal looking stool and is urinating. She is just not interested in anything.  how long should I let this go on.  Thank You so much for your service to all rabbits.   Joanne Gordon

Answer
Dear Joanne,

Whenever a bunny acts this way, it's definitely a cause for concern.  You can't let it wait the way you can with a dog or cat, since rabbits can "crash and burn" frighteningly quickly.

This may or may not have anything to do with the surgery, but here's a quick way to try to find out what's wrong:

If you feel your present vet may not be as experienced with rabbits as others might be, you can find another vet for a second opinion here:

I think she needs to be seen by a good rabbit vet, as the symptoms you describe could be a sign of a serious problem.

I hope this helps. Please write back if you have any other questions.
