Scabs?

Question
-------------------------------------------
You said your rabbits love hay? Well, my rabbits are the exact opposite. Ever since I started giving them unlimited pellets (because they are growing bunnies) they have been cutting down their hay. Is something wrong? Should I limit the pellet until they eat some hay?

My rabbits are almost 3 month old. Would you suggest feeding them greens? If not, is grass okay? Some rabbit owners told me 6 month old is the right time to feed rabbits greems although other say over 2 month of age is alright. My rabbits' last owner was already feeding them carrots and greens when they were younger than 2 month.

-----Question-----
Hello,
My rabbits have been developing scabs all over their skin.
-----Answer-----
This could be fur mites or dry skin. Please give me more information so i can possibly answer this question further.

-----Answer-----
I would say it is fur mites. You can treat this with mite medication that you can buy from your local vet or feed supply company. Some rabbits get naturally dry skin, this is also a possiblity and they will scratch and dig at it if it is really dry. the scratching would cause the scabs.

Yes baby oil will both help to smother mites, and if its not mites help with the dry skin. I use baby oil to treat ear mites, if i don't have any mineral or ear mite oil available to use. I use it sometimes as a precaution, like after attending shows to treat them just in case.

I don't feed mine greens most of the time. Occasionally they get carrots or carrot tops, and very scarcely get fresh picked clovers. Make sure if you give them any grass that you was it good first so that no poisons or fertilzer is ingested. I give mine plenty of hay daily so that takes care of the greens that most people feed them. Mine get no treats until they become mature. Treats such as grass, carrots, ect. are to harsh on babies sensitive digestive systems. i still give them plenty of hay. Usually with all the hay and pellets they don't even want treats.
I forgot to mention above, if you have a skinny rabbit or one just coming over an illness, a chunk of raw sweet potato can help to get their appitites up and make them gain weight. I do this often with my Show New Zealands and Holland lops, i guess it helps to fill out the hindquarters.

Answer
Rabbits can be weird like that. I have some that adore carrots and others snub their noses at them. I free feed pellets until they are sexually mature, usually around 4-5 months. Some of my dwarfs as early as 3 months. I would still give them each at least a hand full of hay every day, that way it is still available to them. once they get older, they should start eating it more.
