My rabbit has given birth upstairs in her hutch

Question
Hi Dave,

I hope you can help. I unexpectedly found that my mini lop rabbit had given birth yesterday. I think there are 4, maybe 5 babies. I am nervous to mess with the next as she's made it so well and completely covered them with fur. Is it ok to have a proper look and count the babies.

I have a further problem. The hutch is two storey with a ramp going down. My rabbit has made the nest upstairs and i'm extremely worried that one they start moving around they'll fall down. Should I move the nest downstairs? I have read a few forums and it's been suggested that moving the nest could cause my rabbit to abandon her babies. Could you advise on this?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Debra

Answer
hi debra leave her alone with them for two days and feed as normal then take the doe out the cage look in the nest and remove any dead baby's -cover them up again and replace the doe then just let her get on with it.
they open the eyes at about 7-10 days then start moving about-if one does come out the nest you will have to put it back as the doe will not do this.
just leave the nest where it is or she may abandon them
