Question
I have a rabbit with a swelling on his nose.  he has been vaccinated against mixi, but the vet said that he has a form of nodular mixi.

Can you explain what this is an what the future holds for him. He seems quite content and is eating ok, but I would hate for him to suffer.

thanks

Answer
Dear Elaine,

If he has been vaccinated, then his chances of recovery from this small expression of the virus are very good.  There is nothing to do for it but keep his environment stress free, keep taking the good care of him you always do, and watch for any signs of worsening of the lesions.

You might also ask your vet about using Equimune IV, an immune system booster for horses that has been used by a vet in Australia to actually treat *unvaccinated* rabbits with myxomatosis.  If your vet is interested in reading the account from that vet, please email me at dana@miami.edu and I'll be glad to email it to you.

Hope this helps.
