Bunny ear bump

Question
Rabbit had a bump in his ear, about the size of a pea with a white sort of scab on top. I pulled off this top part, which was dried pus and squeezed out the rest of the abscess. Bunny doesn't seem to mind, but now he has an empty crater in his ear with a 2mm opening. Will this heal on its own? Could this be the sign of something worse?

Answer
Dear Adam,

I would gently flush the crater with dilute povidone iodine to make sure all bacteria are killed off, and then keep it dry and clean so it can heal from below.  It will probably form a scab, and under this scab the new tissue will granulate in and form a little scar.  But it's important to keep the area disinfected so the abscess won't recur.  Hence, the povidone iodine.

Hope it's all healed up soon!
