Question
I have two six months old female and male rabbits they are holland lops breed. The are not nutured they are both now in seperate large cages and they eat pellets.
My rabbit has just had six kits but they don't have a nest box, I have put shredded newspaper and hay. is this ok.  They are inside the house in a closed balcony.  Over the cage I have put a towel for more warmth.  Can I touch the kits or will the mother eat them?.

Answer
Karen, it is wiser to put them in a nest box - which can be a sturdy cardboard box the same size as your doe sitting up.  She will prorobly chew the box - but if it has no coloring on it ( ink ) it will not hurt her.  the reason for the nest is so the kits do not wander away from its siblings and get cold.  Did the mother pull fur ?  I do not like to put shredded newspaper in because I am leary of the ink.  Once you have the box you can put a layer of folded newspaper first and then a nice layer of clean dry hay with the mothers pulled fur.

If the mother is used to you and lets you pet her no problems you can pick up the kits.  Just remember that they are little living being and not toys.
