Question
My daughter has a rabbit we think is pregneant. She had babies before but they died that night unfortunatly, we saw alittle blood before they were born last time. And we see some blood this time too. Is that a sign that she is about to give birth?

Thank you,
Kim.

Answer
Hi Kim,
blood would be a sign that the kindling has already taken place, and is from the placenta which the doe usually eats.  If you see that she's made a nest and has lined it with her fur, then she will give birth within 12 hours. They also do a good job in hiding the kits in the fur for protection.
Always leave the mother and babies for the first 12 hours as this is the time for her to bond and recover from the delivery.  Too much interferance will only discourage the doe.  Best of luck,Elizabeth
