Question
Someone opened the doggy door and my dogs got out and chased my rabbit. we thought he was going to die but he seems okay he is eating and he is resting.but he has blood in one of his legs im not sure what i should put for his leg not to get infected. i don't want to hurt him and im taking him to the vet tomorrow.

Answer
Dear Karla,

Until you can get your bunny to the vet, wash the injured area with dilute povidone iodine (Betadine) solution, and dry well.  I'm glad the bunny survived this potentially fatal encounter.  It's better that this was a dog bite, and not a cat bite, since cats have horrible bacteria in their mouths that can cause systemic infections very quickly.  Dog mouths are not quite so filthy, but your bunny certainly needs veterinary attention ASAP to be sure all medications necessary are given.

If you don't yet have a good rabbit vet, you can find one here:

I hope this helps.
