Question
Why is our 2 year old rabbit pulling out his fur? it started about 2 weeks ago and he has not stopped. he is eating and drinking as usual, and has a tiny amount of clear discharge from his eyes. he is DEFINETLY a male.He is pulling it from his lower back. (we think) can you please help?!

Answer
Dear Candy,

If you are absolutely sure your bunny is a male, then the next most probable explanation is that something is irritating his skin and making him worry at himself.  If the area is only on his rear end, I'd be concerned about urine burn.

Have a close look at the areas he's plucking and look at the skin underneath.  If it's red and irritated, there's a problem.  Most of the common reasons for rabbit fur loss are covered here:

along with explanations and possible treatments.  You can find a good rabbit vet here to help you get to the bottom of this and get him on medications, as appropriate, to solve this problem:

I hope this helps.
