yesterdays news litter

Question
Hi Dana,

I just switched my bunny's litter to yesterday's news.  She thinks that it is a buffet of new pellets and just sat eating them until I took her litter tray out.  I know the bag says they are non-toxic but to what extent?  I wasn't sure what to do so I took them away.   My pet store now only carries yesterday's news (we used to use Clean-n-comfy).   any help would be appreciated.

Tracy

Answer
Dear Tracy,

What a goofball, your bunny!  I've never heard of a bunny who actually ate a LOT of Yesterday's News, and I'm not sure making a dietary item of it is a good thing.

You might try to find a large pet supply outlet that sells pelleted sawdust litter, such as Feline Pine, Aspen Fresh, or even wood stove pellets from Home Depot or horse pine pellet bedding from a local feed store.  These are excellent for the bunny litterbox, especially if covered with a thin layer of soft hay.

You might try the layer of hay over the Y.N., too, if you can't get any other kind of litter.  That should distract bun from eating it, and stop the problem.

Hope that helps!

Dana
